Mt. Rainier Climb raises $30,000 for Nepal Orphanage
On Sunday, July 19, 2009 two groups of participants in the Red Lantern Journeys Climb for Himalaya Children struggled their way through thin air and high winds to reach the summit of the 14,410-foot-high Mt. Rainier in Washington State. They planted Tibetan prayer flags on the summit in honor of the children of the Mitrata Orphanage in Kathmandu. Prior to the climb, the 21 participants and 5 climb leaders raised over $30,000 from generous people who sponsored their climb. The mountain was climbed by two different routes: one group via the Camp Muir-Dissappointment Cleaver route; and one group via the Camp Schurman-Emmons Glacier route.
The Climb for Himalaya Children will be held again in 2010. Contact Red Lantern Journeys for more information and to register early as space will be limited to just 20 participants.

Asia Travel News and Commentary Blog
The Asia Travel News and Commentary blog was started by Red Lantern Journeys founder, Ambrose Bittner, as a source of informaton for visitors to Asia who seek to filter through the news stories and get relevent information that could affect their travel plans to Asia. It’s not meant to be a guidebbook or an all encompassing source of information, but a commentary on current events such as natural disasters, political changes, changes in the travel infrastructure and how they might affect your travel plans. The interpretation of news is something that the popular media often leaves out, but because of my position in the industry as the owner of Red Lantern Journeys, I sometimes have access to information that others don’t and will know what it might mean to you, the traveler.
Visit the blog at www.ambrosebittner.com.
Although this blog is not intended to be a guidebook, you’ll find good independent reviews of places I know about and visit during some of my travels.
