Myanmar is an ancient land where the incredibly warm and hospitable people still wear traditional dress and adhere to age-old customs. This isolated country is beginning a transformation, so get there soon to experience its charming old cities, stupa-filled landscapes, and interesting trekking routes.

We're Experts! Red Lantern Journeys can arrange tours throughout Myanmar. In addition to the iconic sights, we know the best hotels, river cruises, experiences, and off-the-beaten-path locations for your tour!

BOOK EARLY! Myanmar has become very popular and does not have enough hotel space for the demand. Plan to book your trip at least 6 months in advance!

Our Personal Picks

  • A hot air balloon ride over thousand year old temples in Bagan
  • The palm-lined beaches of Ngapali
  • Sunset at Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon
  • A romantic horse-drawn-cart ride in the evening through the plain of Bagan’s stupas
  • A walk across U Bein Bridge in Mandalay, the longest teak bridge in the world

When to Travel
The best times to travel in Myanmar are from November through February. March through May are also ok, but can be quite hot. June through September is the monsoon season with daily rains, but the temperatures can be a bit lower and it is still possible to travel then without the hordes of tourists. In northern Myanmar, the weather is milder and travel is possible at any time.

Visa Information
American and Canadian passport holders need a visa to enter Myanmar. The easiest way is to apply for an e-Visa online. Your passport needs to be at least valid for 6 months from time of arrival and you have to upload a recently taken color passport photo in jpeg format (4.8cm x 3.8cm). Payment is $50 per person and made via credit card.
The validity of the eVisa approval letter is 90 days and but length of stay is 28 days for single entry.
