Laya Gasa Trek - 20 days/19 nights
Paro - Lingshi - Laya - Wangdue - Thimpu - Paro
This trek offers up-close mountain views and the route is rich in Himalayan flora and fauna. The highlight of this trek is the village of Laya which has preserved its unique culture. The trek ends at Gasa Tshachu (hot spring) allowing you to relax and unwind in the hot spring. This is indeed one of the finest treks Bhutan has to offer!
Not a group trek! This is a privately-guided trek featuring expert local guides. It can be scheduled for your departure dates. Best months for this trek are April and May in the spring season and September and October in the fall season.

Day 1: Paro (7,780 ft.)
Upon arrival you will be welcomed by our representatives and transferred to your hotel. Overnight Paro. (All meals)
Day 2: Paro (7,780 ft.)
After breakfast visit the famous cliff side Taktsang Monastery, also known as the Tiger's Nest. It's a 2 to 3-hour hike to this incredible monastery built in the midst of a sheer 3,000-foot cliff. Enjoy an evening free to explore the streets of Paro on your own. Overnight in Paro. (All meals)
Day 3: Paro to Shana (9,180 ft.)
In the morning drive to the trail head in Drugyel Dzong. Follow the path upstream along the Pachu River gradually ascending to Shana camp. Walking time is about 5-6 hours. Overnight in Camp. (All meals)
Day 4: Shana to Soi Thangthangkha (12,500 ft.)
After breakfast continue on your trek following the Pachu River and ascending through pine, oak and spruce forest. Walking time is about 7-8 hours. Overnight in Camp. (All meals)
Day 5: Soi Thangthangkha to Jangothang (13,300 ft.)
In the morning ascend to an army camp. Then follow the river above tree line with stunning views of the surrounding peaks. From there, it is an easy walk to Jangothang. Walking time is about 4-5 hours. Overnight in Camp. (All meals)
Day 6: Jangothang (13,300 ft.)
Enjoy a day of rest in Jangothang. Explore Tshophu Lake, visit local Yak herders, or simply relax with a book. Overnight in Camp. (All meals)
Day 7: Jangothang to Lingshi (13,500 ft.)
After breakfast, climb the ridge and enjoy stunning views of Chomolhari, Jichu Drake and Tshrim Khang mountains. Trek through the wide open valley spotting herds of blue sheep. Cross over the stunning Nyelela pass and relax on a gradual descent to camp. Walking time is about 6-7 hours. Overnight in Camp. (All meals)
Day 8: Lingshi to Chebisa (12,600 ft.)
In the morning enjoy a pleasant walk past Lingshi Dzong and through villages and yak herders camps. After lunch trek to Chebisa village. Walking time is about 4-5 hours. Overnight in Camp. (All meals)
Day 9: Chebisa to Shomuthang (13,950 ft.)
Today begins with a steep 3-4 hour climb up a ridge to Gobula pass and then descends through rhododendrons bushes. The path goes up and down crossing streams and Yak herders’ camps. Walking time is about 7-8 hours. Overnight in Camp. (All meals)
Day 10: Shomuthang to Robluthang (14,100 ft.)
After breakfast, begin your climb to Jari la pass. Then descend all the way through alpine forest and rhododendron shrubs to Tsharijathang, a summer feeding ground for the rare Takins (national animal of Bhutan). Walking time is about 7-8 hours. Overnight in Camp. (All meals)
Day 11: Robluthang to Limithang (13,450 ft.)
Today will be a long climb up to Shinje la pass. From the pass descend into Limithang, a wide open valley and summer grazing ground for the yaks of the Laya people. Walking time is about 7-8 hours. Overnight in Camp. (All meals)
Day 12: Limithang to Laya (12,650 ft.)
After breakfast, enjoy a pleasant walk passing through damp forest filled with moss and singing birds. Arrive in Laya village, the second highest settlement in the country. Walking time is about 4-6 hours. Overnight in Camp. (All meals)
Day 13: Laya (12,650 ft.)
Spend a full day exploring the village of Laya. Be welcomed into villagers’ homes to enjoy a cup of butter tea, yak milk, or Chang (local brewed wine made from wheat or barley). Admire the local dress code where women wear conical bamboo hats decorated with turquoise and silver ornaments and dark yak wool dresses. Overnight in Camp. (All meals)
Day 14: Laya to Koina (11,200 ft.)
Trek down to the army base camp and follow the river crossing small streams. During the winter months you will see the rare Takins grazing on the bamboo shoots. Walking time is about 5-6 hours. Overnight in Camp. (All meals)
Day 15: Koina to Gasa Hot Springs (7,250 ft.)
The trail ascends for some time and gradually to the Bamela pass. The path is all the way down hill to the camp. Walking time is about 6-7 hours. Overnight in Camp. (All meals)
Day 16: Gasa Hot Springs to Goen Damji (6,100 ft.)
Enjoy an easy walk through semi tropical vegetation filled with wild orchids crossing rivers and streams. Take your time admiring the scenic beauty of the country side. Walking time is about 4-5 hours. Overnight in Camp. (All meals)
Day 17: Goen Damji to Wangdue (4,300 ft.)
Today is the last day of trekking. Continue walking gradually downhill following the Mochu River through heavily forested area till you arrive at Tashithang. The bus will be waiting to drive you an hour to Punakha. Visit the 17 century dzong and drive 45 minutes to your hotel. Enjoy a free evening to relax and rest. Overnight in Wangdue. (All meals)
Day 18: Wangdue to Thimphu (7,700 ft.)
Drive to Thimphu and spend your afternoon sightseeing. Overnight in Thimphu. (All meals)
Day 19: Thimphu to Paro (7,780 ft.)
In the morning have time to explore Thimphu before driving 2 hours back to Paro. Overnight in Paro. (All meals)
Day 20: Departure
Transfer to the airport for your departure flight home. (Breakfast)

Flights to/from Bhutan on Druk Air via Bangkok, Singapore, New Delhi, Kathmandu, Bagdogra, Dhaka, or Calcutta.

- Pay a non-refundable $500 per person deposit and we will initiate your reservations. Please note that for flights to/from Bhutan, airfare is due at the time of booking in addition to the deposit.
- Final payment is due 75 days prior to departure.
If your reservation is made less than 75 days prior to departure, the non-refundable deposit will allow us to initiate reservations. Full payment will be due immediately upon confirmation of all hotels and transportation services. If the services quoted cannot be confirmed, alternate accommodation or transportation will be arranged and the price will be adjusted accordingly.
Payments can be made by personal check, bank wire transfer, or credit card. Upon receipt of your deposit, we will initiate your reservations and send you a statement showing your payment. Approximately 4 weeks prior to your departure, we will send you a final confirmation package containing your itinerary and detailed information on the logistics of your trip.
