Cambodia
Cambodia’s history is still raw and often provides an unusually emotional travel experience that is both educational and rewarding. Most travelers to Cambodia are inspired by the beautifully resilient people who have moved beyond their country’s recent troubles.
Experience Cambodia’s ancient history near Siem Reap with a horseback ride through Angkor Wat, the vast complex of stunning, 12th century temples. Be sure to visit Phnom Penh and see the Killing Fields of Tuol Sleng and the Genocide Museum. For more off-the-beaten-path experiences, search for rare river dolphins near Kratie on a Mekong boat cruise, test your taste buds during a hands-on Khmer cooking class, or retreat to the sleepy seaside town of Kep for a slower pace of life. Head to Sihanoukville for beautiful beaches, far quieter than those of Thailand or experience a homestay in Kampong Kliang village on Tonle Sap Lake.

- A helicoptor ride above ancient Angkor temples
- A motorcycle ride through rural Battambang
When to Travel The best times to travel in Cambodia are from early November to March when temperatures are cooler and the weather is typically good. It is still possible to travel other times of year, but it is very hot in April and May while June through early October is the monsoon season. However, crowds at places like the ancient Angkor temples will be much sparser during the off season.
Recent News and Upcoming Events Cambodia Angkor Air is the new national carrier of Cambodia, formed in July, 2009 as a joint venture between the Cambodia government and Vietnam Airlines. All Bangkok Airways flights on the domestic Phnom Penh to Siem Reap route have been taken over by Cambodia Angkor Air. The opening of the refurbished Sihanoukville airport has been pushed back so flights between Sihaoukville-Siem Reap, or Shihanoukville-Phnom Penh have not kicked off yet.
Visa Information US and Canadian citizens need a visa to enter Cambodia. Most travelers find “visa on arrival” to be the most convenient option. Visas are available on arrival at the Siem Reap or Phnom Penh airports, and all other entry points except Veun Kham. The fee is $20 USD (cash only) and you need two recent passport photos. It is also possible to arrange a visa through Cambodian Embassies overseas or applying for an e-visa. If you prefer to use a visa service to handle your visa applications, we recommend CIBT Global Visa and Passport Professionals.
