Day 1: Ulaanbaatar
Upon arrival in Buyant Ukhaa International airport, you will be welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy a half day city tour in the afternoon to visit the National History Museum and if time permits, take an excursion to the Zaisan Hill War Memorial to get your bearings with a panoramic view of the whole city.
Day 2: Ulaanbaatar to Bayangobi
Today begin your journey to western Mongolia. Arrive in Bayangobi after a scenic 5-hour drive over paved roads. After settling in at the ger camp, explore the Bayangobi sand dunes and Hugnukhaan Mountain. Choose an optional hour of horseback riding or trekking near the camp. Overnight in Mongolian gers.
Day 3: Bayangobi to Karakorum to Tsenkher Jiguur
Spend your morning visiting the symbolic ruins of the ancient capital city of Karakorum and Erdenezuu Monastery, the first and one of the largest Buddhist Monasteries in Mongolia. After lunch, continue your drive to the Tsenkher Jiguur hot spa and spend your afternoon relaxing in an outdoor spa. Overnight in ger camp.
Day 4: Tsenkher Jiguur to Terhiin Tsagaan Nuur Lake
With a packed lunch, you’ll travel across the central Mongolian plateau on an adventurous drive and arrive in a ger camp on the shore of the beautiful Terhiin Tsagaan Nuur lake. Enroute visit the mysterious Taikhar Rock, pretty green town of Tsetserleg, and the extinct Khorgo volcano. Overnight in ger camp.
Day 5: Terhiin Tsagaan Nuur Lake to Tsagaan Burgas valley
After breakfast drive north towards Huvsgul Lake across the mountain steppe zone in the northern tip of the Khangai mountain range and settle in the picturesque Tsagaan Burgas valley for the night, halfway between Terhiin Tsagaan Nuur lake and Huvsgul lake. Overnight in tented camp.
Day 6: Tsagaan Burgas valley to Murun to Huvsgul Lake
Drive via the town of Murun, to the center of Huvsgul Aimag, and arrive at the shore of pristine Huvsgul Lake. After settling in a ger camp conveniently located on the western shore, relax for the rest of the day in the refreshing setting of the lake.
Day 7: Huvsgul Lake
Today is free for you to relax and enjoy your own activities exploring the surrounding area. Huvsgul Lake is the second largest fresh water lake in Central Asia and is a great place to enjoy bird watching, hiking, and perhaps a visit with the local reindeer herders. Overnight in ger camp.
Day 8: Huvsgul Lake to Tunamal Nuur Lake
After a morning cultural excursion to the stone monuments near Murun town, settle near Tunamal Nuur Lake to the west of Murun town. Overnight in tented camping.
Day 9: Telmen Nuur Lake to Bust Nuur Lake to Zambaga tourist camp
Travel across green hills and the plateau of northern Mongolia dotted with numerous small lakes. Stop half way and enjoy a picnic near Bust Nuur Lake, a beautiful lake with a tiny island in the middle. Overnight in Zambaga tourist camp.
Day 10: Zambaga tourist camp to Khag Nuur Lake to Bor Khalzan Els sand dunes
Enjoy lunch in Khag Nuur resort near Uliastai, the center of Zavkhan aimag, and later visit the spectacular sight of Bor Khalzan Els sand dunes and oasis. Here you can see fresh water springs flowing out of the bottom of huge sand dunes creating a dramatic oasis. Overnight in tented camp near the sands.
Day 11: Bor Khalzan Els sand dunes to Khyargas Nuur Lake
Spend a full day traveling through desert and lush vegetation, including the Mongol Els sand dunes and the picturesque southern shore of Khyargas Nuur lake, rich in vegetation and birdlife. Overnight in gers at the Hetsuu Khad resort.
Day 12: Khar Us Nuur lake to Khovd
Drive along the northern shore of Khar Us Nuur lake to the historic town of Khovd, the center of western Mongolia. Bird watch for swan, osprey, snipe, thrush and various other birds along the coast. Overnight in a tourist camp on the bank of Buyant river close to the center of Khovd.
Day 13: Khovd to Gurvan Senkher Cave
Go on an excursion to Gurvan Senkher cave. Travel along the western shore of Khar Us Nuur Lake, and enjoy the beauty of snow capped Jargalant Mountain to the east as we arrive in Gurvan Senkher nestled in an eastern branch of Altai Mountain range. Explore the twin chambers of the longest cave in Mongolia, which is believed to have been inhabited by prehistoric people. Have a barbeque lunch outside the cave. Overnight in ger camp near Khovd town.
Day 14: Fly to Ulaanbaatar
Return to Ulaanbaatar by airplane. Enjoy a free day to explore the city and shop for Mongolian cashmere. Overnight in hotel.
Day 15: Ulaanbaatar
Enjoy a final city tour with visits to Gandan Monastery, the Natural history Museum, and Bogd Khaan Palace museum. Today’s program can be customized according to your desire.
Day 16: Departure
Transfer to Chinggis Khaan International Airport for departure.

- Pay a non-refundable $500 per person deposit and we will initiate your reservations. Please note that for flights to/from Bhutan, airfare is due at the time of booking in addition to the deposit.
- Final payment is due 75 days prior to departure.
If your reservation is made less than 75 days prior to departure, the non-refundable deposit will allow us to initiate reservations. Full payment will be due immediately upon confirmation of all hotels and transportation services. If the services quoted cannot be confirmed, alternate accommodation or transportation will be arranged and the price will be adjusted accordingly.
Payments can be made by personal check, bank wire transfer, or credit card. Upon receipt of your deposit, we will initiate your reservations and send you a statement showing your payment. Approximately 4 weeks prior to your departure, we will send you a final confirmation package containing your itinerary and detailed information on the logistics of your trip.

- Cancel between 30 and 60 days prior to departure - forfeit 50% of the tour cost.
- Cancel less than 30 days prior to departure - NO REFUND of tour cost.
- Cancellations must be made in writing and sent via mail, fax, or email to Red Lantern Journeys.
- Refunds will be processed within 30 days of receipt of your written request.
- No refunds are available for unused services or tours during your trip.
