Vietnam
From the pristine beaches lining the coast to the cooler, awe-inspiring mountains of the north, Vietnam is a country of activity and beauty. The varied landscapes are ideal for soft and hard adventure options as well as a glimpse into the not-so-recent history of the Vietnam War.
In the cooler climate of the north, kayak your way through limestone, cliff studded Halong Bay and trek through isolated hill-tribe villages in Sapa. Shop for colorful Vietnamese weavings and sample Vietnam’s sweet and spicy cuisine. Learn how to cross the street through seas of motorbikes in the old capitol of Hanoi and wake early to watch locals bent over hot bowls of pho on the street or take a walk down narrow streets in the Old Quarter. Head south, via train, passing endless rice fields, children riding buffalo, and women in iconic conical hats. Stop in the ancient port town of Hoi An for Chinese-influenced architecture, or visit Hue to cycle through the citadel or take a culinary class. Get lost in the buzz of Ho Chi Minh City or visit the Cu Chi tunnels for a look at Vietnam’s not so distant past. From the bustle of narrow city streets to the quite lull of sleepy villages along the Mekong River Delta, Vietnam is a vivid country, full of experiences to satisfy the senses.

When to Travel
Any time of year is okay to visit Vietnam, but November to May is probably the best weather, although North Vietnam can get a bit cool, especially in the mountains.

You can also obtain your Visa on arrival (recommended) with an Invitation Letter from the Vietnamese authorities, which is available through Red Lantern Journeys. The fee is $50.
