The Reservation Process
When you make a telephone, email, or web inquiry to Red Lantern Journeys, we will be open, honest, and forthright about what we can do for you. We will ask you information about where and when you want to travel, what types of activities, what types of accomodation, and your approximate budget. We will be happy to make recommendations and give you guidance for what to consider in planning your trip.
Custom Itineraries
If you would like us to do the research to come up with a detailed itinerary and price quote, we charge a $200 itinerary development fee. This fee buys our time to research and create a custom itinerary that is acceptable to you without any obligation to purchase. The fee is not refundable, but it will be deducted from the cost of your trip if you decide to book. If you wish to take, as is, one of the sample itineraries on our web site, then no itinerary development fee is required, just pay the deposit and we will book it.
To Book a Trip
A $500 per person non-refundable deposit must be paid by check, money order, or bank wire transfer and sent to Red Lantern Journeys along with a signed reservation form. If departure is less than 75 days, payment must be made in full. Upon receipt, we will initiate the reservations and inform you when all hotels, tours, and transportation have been confirmed. The balance of your payment will be due at least 75 days prior to departure. Approximately 4 weeks prior to your departure, we will send you a final confirmation package containing your itinerary and detailed information on the logistics of your trip.
Note that for trips to Bhutan, airfare for the Druk Air flights is due at the time of booking.
Cancellation/Refund Policies
- Cancel more than 60 days prior to departure - forfeit your deposit.
- Cancel between 30 and 60 days prior to departure - forfeit 50% of the tour cost.
- Cancel less than 30 days prior to departure - NO REFUND of tour cost.
- Cancellations must be made in writing and sent via mail, fax, or email to Red Lantern Journeys. Refunds will be processed within 30 days of receipt of your written request.
- No refunds are available for unused services or tours during your trip.
Payments
- Itinerary Development Fee: Personal check, money order, and credit cards are accepted (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover).
- Deposits: Check, money order, or bank wire transfer only. Credit cards are not accepted for deposits.
- Final Payments: Check, money order, or bank wire transfer only. Credit cards are not accepted for deposits.
Trip Insurance
Travel to Asia is risky. Therefore travel insurance is highly recommended to protect you from unanticipated events such as transportation delays, lost or stolen luggage, terrorism, natural disasters, medical emergencies, etc. We are authorized agents of Travelex Insurance and would be happy to provide you with a quote.
Proof of trip insurance is required for treks in Bhutan, Nepal, or Tibet.

Privacy Policy
Your information will be used to provide you with requested services or information. We do not disclose your information without your consent to third parties, except to facilitate the request, to act on your behalf or request, or as legally required. We do not sell our client's personal information, period. Occasionally, we may send you information to keep you updated about our own products and services.
